“My approach to the practice of law combines my love of learning about people and new businesses, with the opportunity to apply my analytical skills and legal knowledge to aggressively advocate for not simply a winning result but also a practical result for all clients, whether individual or corporate.” Beth also maintains an active commercial transactions practice. She has been involved with sales and purchases of large and small businesses, and advises on issues including the initial selection of the business entity type, business formation, management contract negotiation, drafting of related agreements, governance, and financing. Beth has substantial experience in working with businesses specifically in the commercial recreational and resort industry, both for-profit and non-profit private entities. Beth's multi-state practice includes representing individuals in complex probate litigation. A large, luxury resort in Vermont has retained Beth for many years to serve as a general advisor and counsel to the business. In this capacity, she has provided advice on a wide range of issues, including guiding her client through zoning and land use permitting processes related to development as well as liquor licensing, and state health licensing requirements applicable to the hospitality industry. Beth garnered national attention for her successful representation of a woman who was forced off of a Delta Airlines plane in 2006 because she refused to cover up or stop breastfeeding her infant. The Vermont Human Rights Commission ruled that the Delta connections carrier, Freedom Airlines, discriminated against her. The case is now in litigation. Prior to attending law school, Beth owned and operated a successful restaurant in Vermont. She continues to enjoy cooking in her leisure time, and from her new home in Portland is delighted to continue pursuit of her outdoor passions: skiing and kayaking. |
