Jonathan engages in a sophisticated civil practice encompassing estate planning and administration, corporate and banking transactions, intellectual property, and real estate law. He works with both individuals and businesses to fashion innovative plans and strategies to accomplish his client’s objectives.
 
Jonathan has extensive experience in crafting estate plans and the documents needed to implement those plans, such as wills, living trusts, irrevocable trusts and insurance trusts. He has advised clients with both small and large retirement assets, and provides the same level of personal excellence to each client. He has administered estates and trusts of all sizes. Jonathan has a special interest and expertise in creating plans that address the unique considerations involved in transferring ownership of family vacation properties to the next generation by creating a trust or LLC, adopting conservation easements and implementing tax planning strategies.

Jonathan also has represented numerous business clients, both as buyers and sellers, and banks in merger and acquisition transactions and financing transactions. He has assisted and advised Maine companies in seeking and obtaining venture capital and on their ongoing operational issues. He serves as the “go to” counsel for various Maine companies, and in that capacity has negotiated a wide range of business contracts for his clients and provided counsel on many business issues.

Jonathan’s real estate clients have included a large multi-use developer in Casco Bay and several Homeowners’ Associations as well as purchasers of vacation homes. Finally, he has prosecuted and maintains dozens of trademark registrations for his business clients.

Jonathan lives in Auburn, Maine, with his wife, Kathleen Kienitz, also an attorney, and the youngest of their three children. In his free time, he grows flowers.
